Ben Woodburn gave fans another glimpse of his natural talent on Saturday as he scored a superb goal in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Athletic Bilbao in Dublin.
The 17-year-old played a key role in ensuring the Reds were able to finish off their pre-season in style, making the most of the opportunity granted to him by the absence of star players.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were without Philippe Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana, who has been ruled out for up to three months with a thigh injury, but managed to overcome their Spanish opponents thanks to important contributions from a number of young players.
Woodburn’s moment in the spotlight came just before the hour mark when his fierce left-footed strike put his side 2-1 up.
The goal came thanks to some great work from Dominic Solanke, with the striker running into the channel before having the vision to pull the ball back to Woodburn on the edge of the box, whose excellent touch opened up the space for him to fire home.
It marked the latest moment of promise for a young man tipped for a bright future on Merseyside and expected to be handed more first team opportunities next season.
Pre-season has been a valuable opportunity for Liverpool’s youngest ever goal scorer to gain some added experience and continue his development alongside the club’s main senior players.
