Pique: Coutinho ‘delighted’ about chance to join Barcelona

Gerard Pique has needlessly weighed in on Barcelona’s pursuit of Philippe Coutinho by reaffirming the Brazilian’s wish to secure his dream move.

The Spanish centre-back has outlined the Liverpool star’s frustrating situation having, so far, been denied the chance to join the Catalan giants.

“I think players still want to join Barcelona, and they are showing that as is the case with Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele,” Pique told the Daily Mail.

“One by putting in a transfer request and the other with his actions at Dortmund. It suggests that they are both delighted about the idea of coming; they want to come.”

“The problem is, we sold Ney and the clubs know we have the money from that, and the market is the way it is. I don’t think it’s because the players don’t want to come, they are keen to come to Barca, but right now sign whatever player the club wants, it seems to cost more.”

Barcelona have similarly been left unsatisfied as they look to dispose wisely of the £198million generated from the sale of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain.

They have seen three hefty bids for Coutinho, the third worth up to £118million, instantly rejected by Liverpool and greeted with a firm insistence that the playmaker will not be sold for any price this summer.

With the transfer window entering its final stages, there is an apparent panic within the Spanish club to get business done to not only compensate for Neymar’s departure but also the injured Luis Suarez’s five week spell on the sidelines.

It seems Pique isn’t too happy with the situation.
