Mignolet’s reaction to being dropped by Klopp for Arsenal clash

Simon Mignolet has dominated the build up to Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Arsenal after being dropped by manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Belgian is not believed to be struggling with any injury or fitness concerns, but is expected to be left out of the Reds’ match-day squad.

Loris Karius looks set to start in place of the Reds’ usual first choice shot-stopper, with Danny Ward also taking a place on the bench at Anfield.

In response to the shock decision, Mignolet will now reportedly seek talks with his manager over the next few days, according to Sky Sports.

Simple rotation has emerged as one possible explanation for Klopp’s interesting selection, with the German having already alternated between defensive personnel for Premier League and Champions League matches.

That said, the choice to introduce Karius against an attack force as potent as Arsenal’s makes the timing questionable.

Mignolet’s standout finish to the 2016/2017 campaign, combined with a confident start to the new season, suggested he had consolidated his place as Liverpool’s firm No.1. Perhaps not.
