Naby Keita speaks: I am delighted to join Liverpool – Klopp’s project excites me

Liverpool this morning officially announced a club record deal for Naby Keita, who will join next summer on exactly July 1st.

We decided to pay a premium way above his £48m release clause which becomes active in a year’s time – in order to make sure we secured the Guinean.

The 22-year-old, the best midfielder in the Bundesliga last season, will play for Rb Leipzig for one more term before switching to Merseyside.

And while he’s mightily excited about joining Jurgen Klopp, he’s promised his current club to give his all in the meantime.

“I am delighted that an agreement has been reached which will allow me to join Liverpool Football Club next summer, when I will become part of a project that excites me greatly,” he told LFCTV.

“My commitment to RBL remains absolute for the remainder of my time at the club. I have given my all every time I have worn the shirt – that will be the case until the final whistle, in my final appearance.

“Having my future resolved means I can now focus on helping RBL achieve great things this season. Until I join my new club, next summer, I will remain an interested supporter from a distance.”

The news is massively positive, although it’ll be hard to watch our potential superstar from afar!

Hopefully though, we’ll secure Thomas Lemar, Virgil van Dijk and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the next few days as well – all of whom could boost our pursuit of the Premier League and Champions League.
