Emre Can robbed; Puskas nominees revealed

Posted by

FIFA have unveiled ten goals on the shortlist for the Puskas Award, given to the player who scores the best goal in the world every calendar year.

In 2016, Mohd Faiz Subri won the gong for a ludicrous, swerving free-kick and the year before, Wendell Lira won after capping off a ludicrous team goal for Vila Nova in Brazil.

But both these goals pale into comparison when you see Emre Can’s running bicycle kick against Watford last season.

The German was back-peddling towards goal, but somehow managed to fire Lucas’s curling cross into the top corner – with one of the most aesthetically pleasing acrobatic attempts we’ve ever seen.

Yet somehow, this effort hasn’t been shortlisted by FIFA for the 2017 Puskas Award.

When you look at the goals that actually have, you’ll be as shocked as us…

We’d honestly say that none of these, bar perhaps Olivier Giroud’s, is as good as Can’s.
