Liverpool’s interest in Timo Werner turned out to be rubbish, but thankfully, we’ve already agreed a deal to sign his team-mate Naby Keita.
The club struck a deal last year, which will allow the Guinean to officially join this summer.
He’ll be unveiled as a Red in June.
Werner has been discussing his pal’s skill-set and paid Keita the highest compliment with a comparison to arguably the greatest midfielder of his generation, Andres Iniesta.
“Naby will be a world-class player because he has everything,” he told FourFourTwo, cited by the Bundesliga. “I think he’s a bit like Andres Iniesta, the same type of player, because he can dribble, shoot and score. He has a lot of qualities that the young Iniesta had.”
Premier League fans have lazily compared Keita to N’Golo Kante, but to be honest, this is nothing more than accidental, lethargic racism.
Kante is a destroyer; a bundle of energy whose combative style benefits every team he plays for. Keita on the other hand is a creator. Yes, he has the ability to win possession, but his true genius lies in the picture he’s able to see while on the ball.
Next season, Liverpool fans, and everyone else, will become aware.
