Firmino on bouncing back from Champions League heartbreak, LFC ace eager for positive summer

While we all look to put our defeat in Kiev firmly in the past and look forward to a bright future, Bobby Firmino has revealed he hopes to enjoy a successful summer with Brazil to bounce back.

Our frontman gets his World Cup underway on Sunday when Tite’s side take on Switzerland, and we’ll be hoping to see him enjoy a positive tournament if he can displace Gabriel Jesus up top as the first choice striker.

However, he has revealed that our loss in the Champions League final still hurts, but believes that leading Brazil to World Cup glory this summer will be a perfect way to lift morale on a personal level which could be the ideal boost ahead of next season.

“This season has not been bad personally, but it still left a bad taste in the mouth after the Champions League final,” he is quoted as saying by The Mirror. “I still believe we deserved more, but this is what makes football.

“Now I’m at the World Cup and for a Brazilian player it is what you dream. I can’t compare it being with my club – winning a title with Liverpool has a different flavour to winning with Brazil.

“So the defeat against Madrid will always be there, but this is a different challenge and already I’m enjoying it.”

We’ll be hoping that first and foremost our influential stars avoid any injuries over the summer to ensure that they return to pre-season ready for the new campaign.

Beyond that, it will be good to see them enjoy positive tournaments too.

Nevertheless, the crucial factor will be to use the defeat to Real Madrid as fuel to improve ourselves further and have it as motivation to go that extra step next season.

If we can do that, coupled with the talent in this Liverpool squad, we’ll surely be able to contend for major honours again. Firstly for Firmino though, he’ll be hoping to bounce back from our disappointment and play a key role for Brazil in Russia this summer.
