Klopp could hand Liverpool summer signing debut against Man Utd

With the new Premier League campaign edging ever closer, Liverpool’s pre-season preparations will see us take on Man Utd in Michigan on Saturday.

It’s our final International Champions Cup fixture as we look to sign off in style, with Jurgen Klopp undoubtedly hoping to avoid any injury concerns while seeing the players continue to improve their fitness and chemistry on the pitch.

Naturally, we’re eager to see our summer signings in action, and Klopp has hinted at the possibility that Xherdan Shaqiri may be given a run out to make his first appearance in a Liverpool shirt.

“We will see. He has had four days of training and will probably be involved in the squad, so maybe he can play a few minutes,” Klopp said, as per the club’s site.

The Swiss international featured heavily at the World Cup in Russia earlier this summer, and so a balance will be needed between giving him enough rest and bringing him back in time to work on his sharpness and match fitness.

In turn, it will be a bonus to see him in action against United, if he plays, to see how he’s settling in and adapting to his new teammates, and it’s hoped that he can add quality and depth to our attacking options this season.

Although Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino were electric last season with their goals and assists, Klopp will undoubtedly hope that Shaqiri can offer a different dynamic and competition to keep pushing the other players while of course looking to make his spell on Merseyside a success on a personal level too.
