James Milner was rightly Liverpool’s Man of the Match against West Ham yesterday.
The Englishman created a hatful of chances for his team-mates, including a splendid assist for Sadio Mane – but was a real leader on the right of our midfield three, too.
His crosses from deep were consistently on the money.

Milner’s performance was all the more impressive considering he was donning protective headgear following the 15 stitches he needed after our friendly against Napoli!
And our captain on the day found the funny side, claiming after the game that he was waiting for the ref to give a scrum and declaring his new position, ‘prop forward’!
James Milner when asked about his headband: “I was just waiting for the referee to give a scrum.”

Throughout times during Milner’s Anfield tenure, he’s been the subject of ridicule from fans, especially during his spell as a left-back – but following his immense contributions in the Champions League last term – supporters began to appreciate what he offers us.
That’s unrivalled energy, underrated creativity and genuine leadership.
The fact Jurgen Klopp is still picking him as a first-choice speaks volumes. And if he carries on playing like he yesterday, long may it continue.
