Liverpool were heavily linked to Jorginho over the summer, but in the end, the Italy international signed for Chelsea and his former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri instead.
We plumped for Fabinho as our deep-lying midfield option, but the Brazilian has yet to find a way into Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI on a consistent basis.
Jorginho on the other hand has been an integral part of Chelsea’s team from the first day of this season, dictating tempo and controlling possession (although he was quiet at Stamford Bridge on Saturday versus our manic midfield press).
The Italy international’s agent Joao Santos would have been in discussions with Liverpool at one point and spoke openly about our team following the 1-1 Premier League draw.
“I saw the match between Chelsea and Liverpool. It was a good result for the Blues. The Reds have invested a lot this summer and aim to win the Premier and also the Champions League. Jorginho did very well during the match, but Liverpool’s intensity is something crazy,” he was quoted as saying by Tutto Mercato Web.
We’ve actually not invested as heavily as everyone suggests, as much of our spending was simply reinvesting money received for players who have left over the past few windows, but he’s right to say we’re aiming very high…
If we can at least challenge Manchester City, this weekend’s opponents, domestically, we’ll be delighted – but it’ll take some doing.
