Caoimhin Kelleher, who regularly plays for Liverpool’s U23 team, has just received a full call-up to the Ireland squad.

The teenager is highly rated, although with Liverpool purchasing Alisson for a gargantuan fee during the summer, he’s unlikely to ever breakthrough at Anfield.

Ireland are managed by Martin O’Neil, with Roy Keane as his deputy, so it’ll be an interesting experience for 19-year-old Kelleher.

His country will face Northern Ireland in a friendly and then Denmark in the Nations League, but we’d suggest he’ll likely be on the bench and won’t win a first cap.

Kelleher is a good shot-stopper and signed a contract extension at Liverpool in the summer, so we expect he’ll eventually leave on loan and depart in a deal similar to Danny Ward’s exit to Leicester, which made us a nice profit a few months back.

There’s also the chance that we’ll need a new backup to Alisson by next season though, with Simon Mignolet a certainty to eventually depart.

Could Kelleher step up and take a spot on Liverpool’s bench?
