LFC may have to surrender potential UCL semi-final advantage

We have a home advantage if the Reds prevail over Porto and make it to the semi-finals of the Champions League this season, but Manchester United and City could take it away.

Our quarter final ties against the Portuguese giants will be played on the 9th and 17th of April; the first leg seeing Liverpool host Porto at Anfield.

The spoils for the winner? A star studded semi final clash against Spanish giants Barcelona or the mouth watering prospect of Manchester United.

We’re down to play the first leg of a potential semi final away from home with the second leg being at Anfield, but if both Manchester clubs go through then that’ll change.

As per UEFA’s rules: two clubs from the same city can’t play at home on the same day.

Liverpool haven’t had this advantage in the knock out stages so far; hosting both Bayern Munich and Porto at Anfield in the first legs.

The advantage of playing the second leg at your home ground is the opportunity for the fans to get behind their team and create a hostile atmosphere for the opposition.

This isn’t always the case though. The Reds struggled when Porto visited Anfield last season but were able to turn it around as they thrashed the Portuguese club 5-0 in their own back yard.
