He’s at it again – every few months El Hadji-Diouf pipes up with some sort of nonsensical drivel about Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher or just Liverpool in general.
He usually goes after Gerrard; the mercurial former midfielder has the kind of celebrity status to amplify what Diouf – a man known for failing at almost every club he’s played for – says.
This time he’s gone in on Carra. The former Senegalese international described the Reds hero as being inept. “He was a right-footed player with two left feet,” Diouf told beIN SPORTS.
“If he wasn’t a Scouser, a son of Liverpool, he would never have had the career he did. I can say today that the shirt that I regret wearing the most was Liverpool’s.
“Because if I were to do that part of my career again, I would have gone to FC Barcelona or Manchester United. At the time, they wanted me too.”
Honestly, Diouf comes off a bit Alan Partridge there. Even if what he said about Barca and United is true – to actually say it as if he’s trying to convince us is a tad pathetic from a former pro.
It’s odd to say that Carragher, a man who played over 700 games for the club, was over-rated. He’s questioning the decisions of every manager Carra has worked with too.
Madness.
The now 38-year-old former forward played for the Reds between 2002 and 2005 and scored a gargantuan three goals in that time.
