LFC-linked winger speaks out on his future amid heightening media speculation

Rumoured Liverpool target Samuel Chukwueze has played down talk in the media and says that he is only focusing on representing Nigeria at the African Cup of Nations, despite consistent links to the Premier League and the Reds.

The winger, 20, who currently plays for Villarreal in Spain, scored eight times in 38 appearances last season. Manchester City, Arsenal and Leicester City have also been linked with a move for him.

Chukwueze told Tribal Football: “I just keep my head focused on my career. I don’t want any distraction from my football. Coverage in the media is good but my focus is on my football.

“I just want to keep on working hard and continue to improve. Me generating coverage in the media does not get into my head.”

A move for the youngster would be interesting given that the Reds need back-up options in wide areas, and there has been enough talk surrounding him to suggest there is something in the links.

Given some of the crazily high transfer fees that the Reds have been quoted this summer for other targets, depending on how much Villarreal would demand, Chukwueze could be where Michael Edwards and co find the most value.

Signings will come this summer for the Reds – but we might have to sit tight and be patient.
