Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was happy with what he saw as the Reds ran riot in the first half at Anfield against Norwich in the first day of the 2019/20 Premier League season.
The German was impressed by what he saw from the Canaries as well – going as far as to describe them as ‘cheeky’ for continuing to press us after conceding four goals.
The Premier League new-comers gave us a hard time in the second half, and managed to put on past Liverpool new-boy Adrian, as Alisson was taken off before half-time.
An injury to the best goalkeeper in the league is bound to worry Klopp, but the manager was happy with what he saw from the Spaniard.
“[Adrian] is a very confident guy,” he told the club’s official website. “I don’t think he wanted to sit only on the bench for the next couple of years, he made himself ready.
“If you are in a situation like this you want to have somebody who played in the league, who is experienced, he is 32 and a calm guy. He is good with his feet, how we saw, that is really important for us.
“[There are] a lot of good things. You still don’t want to have a situation where one goalie is fit, that’s how it is but we have to see.”
Klopp always speaks his mind, whether it’s wanted or not – the boss often swears in interviews, if he feels it’s warranted! But he’s also quite humble as he doesn’t mind paying the opposition compliments.
The German said that he has a lot of respect for what Norwich hope to achieve. “They were not really fussed about the [scoreline],” he said.
“They stayed cheeky, they stayed lively, they did what they wanted to do, they changed offensively. I have to say, biggest respect for what Daniel [Farke] is doing there with the boys.
“[It’s] a very interesting and exciting team. That’s how they scored the goal, because we lost a little bit of concentration.“
