‘Vorm?’ Reds fans have alternative in mind as club reportedly line-up emergency signing

A number of Liverpool fans have suggested that the club make a move for former Spurs goalkeeper Michel Vorm in the wake of Alisson’s injury.

The Brazilian is set to be out for up to months, according to James Pearce, after injuring his calf against Norwich City on Friday.

With young ‘keeper Caoimhin Kelleher still recovering from a wrist injury, the Reds have a bit of a goalkeeping crisis on their hands.

The solution, report Pearce and Goal‘s Neil Jones, could be to add veteran stopper Andy Lonergan, who trained and played for us in pre-season, to the ranks on a short-term deal.

He could well be on the bench in the UEFA Supercup on Wednesday night, providing cover for Adrian.

The priority right now is simply to ensure that we’re not caught out, and it’s highly unlikely Lonergan would have to be utilised.

Still, some supporters are far from keen on the proposed signing…

Many have backed a swoop for Vorm, who has made over 100 Premier League appearances for Swansea City and Spurs.

They say that the Dutchman, now a free agent, edges Lonergan in terms of ability and indeed suitability…

Other Reds, though, feel Lonergan is a good option after he played an important role in the side’s preparations.

He wasn’t offered a deal initially, but clearly he’s rated by the coaching staff.
