Gerrard buzzing over ‘outstanding’ Sheyi Ojo

Steven Gerrard was very impressed with Sheyi Ojo’s performance in Rangers 3-1 victory in the Europa League last night.

The 22-year-old scored an excellent goal and was probably the best player on the field.

Since moving to Scotland, Ojo has four goals in seven appearances and is already a starter in Gerrard’s side – which is promising.

“I thought Sheyi was outstanding today,” Gerrard said.

“But Sheyi will take a lot of the plaudits and a lot of credit tonight. I think that’s the real Sheyi.

“If we can find that on a consistent basis and bottle that performance he’ll certainly make us stronger.”

We really hope the winger can excel north of the border.

He’s terrifically talented and has superb physical attributes, but injuries and poorly chosen loan spells have stunted his development so far.

If Ojo scores a hatful of goals, it’s not impossible that he’ll get given a chance under Jurgen Klopp next summer – but the stories of Harry Wilson and Ryan Kent suggest that in all likelihood – the idea will be to maximise his sell-on profit.

The problem is, breaking into a strike-force that includes Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah is nigh-on impossible.

Let’s just hope Rhian Brewster can at least become a regular rotation option before 2020.
