Liverpool interested in Championship prospect Joe Gelhardt to replace Bobby Duncan

Liverpool and Everton are reportedly interested in Wigan Athletic teenager Joe Gelhardt, as the Reds look to replace Bobby Duncan.

Born in Netherton in Merseyside, the lad is a Liverpool fan and his progress has been noticed by the club he supported as a kid.

This week he will represent England at an U18 level for the first time and interest in him is growing, according to well renowned GOAL journalist Neil Jones.

He already has two goals in five appearances for the Three Lions at an U16 level so it’s easy to see why he’s caught the eye.

Gelhardt is a left-footed striker, who can play anywhere in a front three, and has a contract with Wigan until 2021, but the Reds have plucked talented players from lower clubs before.

Duncan has not long left Anfield for Italy, and it’d be wise for the club to look around for a replacement for the youngster.

Growing up a Liverpool fan, it’s hard to imagine a world in which Gelhardt wouldn’t leap at the chance to join up with one of the Reds’ youth sides.

Jurgen Klopp has shown he invests in younger players, with the addition of Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliott, so I’d keep yours eyes peeled!
