Klopp says Napoli are ‘cheeky bastards’ tactically

Jurgen Klopp has dropped another classic soundbite ahead of tonight’s Champions League tie with Napoli.

Liverpool’s German manager has explained how he prepared incorrectly in terms of our tactical plan last season, when Napoli beat us 1-0 at the San Paolo after a late winner from Lorenzo Insigne.

At the time, Liverpool fans were disappointed at a performance that lacked any pressing or any real moments of attacking quality.

“The Napoli game last season was not about intensity, Napoli was an organisation problem. To make it very simple, we played against them in our defending like they had one six but they had two sixes, the cheeky bastards!” Klopp said, reported in the Standard.

We were poor away from home in the Group Stages last season, but thankfully won all three at Anfield and were then incredible in the knockout section – going on to win the competition – thanks to a semi-final victory over Barcelona and a final win v Spurs in Madrid.

Last term, we started with a midfield three of James Milner, Naby Keita and Gini Wijnaldum, but this time around, we’d imagine Jordan Henderson and Fabinho are almost certain starters.

Wijnaldum will be the favourite for the third midfield spot, with Milner a possibility at left-back, with Andy Robertson sitting out training yesterday.
