Carra names the massive points total the Reds will need to hit in order to win the Premier League

Jamie Carragher says the Reds must get to 100 points in the Premier League this season if they are to win a first league title in three decades.

Manchester City have already dropped five points this season, drawing with Tottenham and losing to Norwich City, but Pep Guardiola’s men are going to be right up there once again – as their 8-0 demolition of Watford showed.

This is why the win over Chelsea so important: not long ago, a point would have been acceptable, but not any more.

Via the Daily Express, Carragher said on Sky Sports: “I think with City and Liverpool, you look at each other’s fixtures, no doubt when one of them goes away from home to one of the other big sides, you think that’s an opportunity to drop points.

“I think for both sides, the target is probably got to be 100 points. City got 100 two years ago, 98 last season. A draw is not a good result. In the past, 10-15 years ago, you go away to United, Chelsea, Arsenal – you get a point, you’re happy.

“Let’s not forget, talking about the record of Liverpool last season in these games, that is where they lost the league.”

Next up for the Reds in the Premier League is Sheffield United next weekend, but before that there is the trip to MK Dons in the Carabao Cup.

Having become the first team ever to win their first six matches of the campaign in two consecutive seasons, the Reds can be more than confident of extending that winning run.
