‘What a boy!’ Lijnders waxes lyrical about Naby Keita’s build-up play

It very much looks like Naby Keita will make his first start of the season, Reds…

Pep Lijnders hinted at it last night as he stood in for Jurgen Klopp in the pre-match press-conference ahead of the MK Dons tie in the Carabao Cup.

As David Lynch tweeted, Lijnders was happy to announce that Keita can ‘shine’ in the EFL Cup, thanks to his brilliant ability to link the midfield and the attack.

Lijnders’ comments are like music to our ears.

At EOTK, we’re enormous fans of Keita and desperately want him to stay fit and start fulfilling his incredible potential.

So far he’s only shown glimpses of his undeniable talent, partly due to a long settling in period and partly due to a number of irritating injuries.

But we hope his most recent set of rehab will set him up for the autumn months, in which we play two games every seven days.

In the long run, we think he could usurp one of Jordan Henderson or Gini Wijnaldum in our first-choice midfield – but let’s be patient.
