Liverpool issue Joel Matip injury update ahead of Man Utd clash

Liverpool have confirmed that Joel Matip has resumed first team training ahead of the Reds’ Premier League clash with Manchester United this coming weekend.

The centre half was injured during Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Sheffield United, but the club has now confirmed that he’s back in training along with goalkeeper Alisson.

Matip missed out on the Reds’ Champions League fixture against Salzburg and the following game against Leicester City.

With Joe Gomez under-performing, Dejan Lovren was seemingly preferred against the Foxes – and he put in a decent performance.

If Matip isn’t set to start against United, I’d hazard a guess that the Croatia international will fill in for his team-mate.

Alisson returning to first team training is also big news, I’m sure that needs no further context. Adrian has put in an admirable shift in the Brazilian’s absence, but fans will be ecstatic to see Ali back.

The club hasn’t confirmed if either player will definitely be available for Jurgen Klopp’s selection, ahead of the United game at the weekend, but it’s a positive step.

Considering the length of Alisson’s injury, the United game may come just too soon for him – but here’s to hoping!
