Why Virgil van Dijk will be pleased with LFC & New Balance court decision

Virgil van Dijk will apparently be buzzing with Nike’s proposal of taking over the manufacturing, after the High Court ruled in Liverpool’s favour over New Balance.

The big centre half is a Nike athlete, and also has experience working with the brand because of their affiliation with the Dutch national team.

GOAL journalist Neil Jones stated in a Tweet that van Dijk was looking for information on the then-ongoing court case from The Athletic reporter James Pearce.

Big Virgil is one of the biggest names Nike have on their roster, and will surely now be front and centre of any campaign the club put out.

Some other big names linked with possible future campaigns are LeBron James, Serena Williams and Canadian hip-hop artist Drake.

The club have kept their lips tight on any new deal, but Nike were explicitly named in court several times as Liverpool disputed whether New Balance could match Nike’s offer.

Under the terms of the contract, New Balance were entitled to another year if they were able to match the offer put forward by a new manufacturer.

The club didn’t believe that New Balance could in fact match what Nike put up, but the manufacturer did and so took Liverpool to court.
