Jurgen Klopp tried to sign Kylian Mbappe before 2017 – report

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp tried to sign rising star Kylian Mbappe in 2017, before the Frenchman joined PSG from Ligue 1 rivals AS Monaco.

The forward is one of the finest players in the world, even at just 20-years-old, and looks like he could go on to become one of the very best of his generation.

Klopp attempted to bring Mbappe to Anfield a couple of years ago, but the Frenchman opted to join PSG and remain in his homeland.

L’Equipe reports that Mbappe was “charmed by the eloquence and enthusiasm” of Klopp and the German tried to sign him before 2017 (h/t Express).

The Reds could have added the then-eighteen-year-old to their ranks and it’s uncertain what could have happened for Mbappe – but he’d have got the full backing from the Anfield faithful.

It wouldn’t have been that out of the question for the PSG man to have joined Liverpool a couple of years ago – we’ve been shown to be able to splash the cash over the years.

The signings of Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Naby Keita and Fabinho are proof that Klopp is happy to put money where his mouth is, if he wants the player enough.
