Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister wrote a message on Instagram aimed at Virgil van Dijk after a comment the Liverpool man made was taken out of context during the Ballon d’Or ceremony.
Or did she…?!
An interviewer asked van Dijk if he thought the Portuguese captain not attending meant he had one less rival – the Liverpool man then joked “was he a rival, then?” – as quoted by the Metro, which Ronaldo’s sister took apparent offence at!
But the social media post looks a little suspect, when translated to English, as there are a lot of “I”s in the text instead of “he” being used.
The use of the first person hints that it was maybe an angry CR7 himself!
Twitter user @FCB_AH10 seems to have been the first person to pick up on this, and has suggested that it was actually Cristiano that posted the message – and not his sister.
This is not even Cristiano‘s sister. It’s Cristiano himself who wrote it through his sister’s account. I‘m done 😭😭😭 pic.twitter.com/l2BTwz1jJ9

It’s hard to tell with this kind of stuff – the translation could quite easily be blamed for this entirely, but it’s funny to imagine a fuming Ronaldo sat in a car, on his way to the Serie A awards, furiously typing out this message.
Context is massive with this sort of thing, and only by watching van Dijk saying what he said, instead of reading black and white quotes, can you understand he’s not being serious.
The Juventus forward wasn’t at the Ballon d’Or ceremony and finished third so Virgil joked that he couldn’t have been a rival for the big award, as he didn’t even attend.
UPDATE:
It seems journalist Tancredi Palmeri has peddled the conspiracy theory, too!
Well well.
So, Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister posted on Instagram a bitter reply to Van Dijk joke. But…
Was she really the one who wrote that or Cristiano himself?
Apparently there was an earlier post, then edited, that shows Cristiano talking in first person… pic.twitter.com/OhxdQPrL2n
