Naby Keita is starting to string together a series of impressive performances in a Liverpool shirt, and will surely be giving Jurgen Klopp something to think about.
The Guinean international played well in the Premier League last week, as he managed to grab a goal, and he’s now gone one better by bagging in the Champions League against Red Bull Salzburg.
He is always a bit of a bright spark for the Reds, when he’s able to gather some momentum. He is quite different from other midfielders – in that he makes winding runs into the opposition half, something often lacking from Jordan Henderson and Fabinho’s game.
But that’s where the beauty of Keita’s playing style comes into it – with the defensive stability that is the skipper or the Brazilian, it allows Naby to be that creative spark in midfield.
We get that from Gini Wijnaldum, but not in the same way. The Dutch international is often utilised as a No.8 or No.6, as was the case against Salzburg, but Keita plays more like a No.10.
Let’s hope he can continue to play at this level and give Klopp the wonderful problem of trying to fit another talented player into that midfield trio!
