The Reds have been blessed with a number of fine full-backs over the years, so while we’re all excited about the possibility of seeing Clyne in a Liverpool shirt – something which The Guardian thinks is a near certainty – it’s worth bearing in mind the quality which we’ll be hoping he can live up to.

How many of these ten players can you remember taking the pitch at Anfield…

10) Jason McAteer

An attacking full-back who could also play in midfield. He played exactly 100 Premier League games for us during the mid-1990s, prior to joining Blackburn Rovers. He recently set up both our goals in the Madrid Legends match.

9) Markus Babbel

The German was an important part of our treble-winning team in 2001, while he also helped us pick up both the Community Shield and the Super Cup the following season. Illness brought his career to a premature end.
