Luis Alberto signed for Liverpool back in 2013 for a fee close to £7m (via BBC Sport), but in two and a half years, we’ve barely seen the Spanish playmaker.
He made a handful of appearances from the bench during our title pursuit in 2013/14, but spent 2014/15 on loan at Malaga and has been with Deportivo this term.
Now 23, Alberto is actually showing signs that he’s fulfilling his potential.
He’s scored four La Liga goals this term and produced this wonderful assist at the weekend against Rayo Vallecano.
Picking the ball up deep, Alberto plays a wonderful ball with the outside of his right-foot to the onrushing attacker, totally leaving the defence for dead.
It’s a sign of his technical ability and creative flair, although we doubt we’ll ever see the best of Alberto at Anfield. With Coutinho, Adam Lallana, Roberto Firmino, Jordon Ibe and probably the returning Lazar Markovic all ahead of him in the attacking midfield pecking order – as well as any potential summer signings – we just can’t see him getting much of an opportunity.
Hopefully he’ll continue his good form and we can receive a decent transfer fee for his services come the end of the season.
