The English Football Association have reportedly offered to donate the FA Cup to the City of Liverpool in honour of the Hillsborough victims.

According to SkySports, the gesture has been in the minds of the FA bigwigs for a long time, but last month inquest ruling has pushed it to “the top of the agenda”.

It is reported that Greg Dyke, the FA chairman, has been in contact with the Hillsborough families, and the decision on whether or not to accept it will rest with them.

Of course, back in April, a jury cleared the Liverpool fans of any wrongdoing at the 1989 tragedy – ending a 27-year battle for justice that saw them forced to fight against the police, the government, and the media.

At present, there has been no official word from either the FA or the families involved.
