Liverpool linked with Serie A right-back on same day as worrying Nathaniel Clyne story

Reports in Italy are claiming that Liverpool are ready to go head-to-head with Napoli for a Udinese player – and no it isn’t Piotr Zielinski.

Gazzamercato, cited by the Liverpool Echo, reckon that we are keeping tabs on Udinese right-back Silvan Widmer, and that Napoli are also interested.

We don’t know much about the 23-year-old other than that he has five international caps for Switzerland and 87 Serie A appearances under his belt.

It seems a strange link considering the excellent debut season that Nathaniel Clyne enjoyed. We surely can’t be looking for a new first-choice right-back.

And Jurgen Klopp has youngsters such as fan favourite Jon Flanagan, returning loanee Andre Wisdom and Connor Randall as back up to the England international.

But the link comes on the same day that Duncan Castle in The Sunday Times claimed that Clyne was unhappy with his position under Klopp and had been offered to Barcelona.

That seems unlikely to us, but the alleged interest in another right-back has got me slightly worried that not everything is hunky-dory with Clyne.
