Manchester City actually warned Liverpool off signing mega-flop

Why would a direct Premier League rival try and help us in the transfer market?

We’re not quite sure, but according to trusted reports in the Independent from Mark Ogden – who’s an excellent source when it comes to all things Manchester – City warned us that Mario Balotelli would only spell trouble in 2014.

Ogden claims that City quietly suggested we’d be wasting our time by trying to change the Italian, who signed for £16m for AC Milan on the departure of Luis Suarez. The contrast in effort, skill and attitude of the two could literally not be more different.

He says that Liverpool officials suggested the atmosphere and fans would help him settle, even assigning him a special member of the security team to get him to training on time. As we know, it didn’t work and we should have listened to City – who had experienced the highs and lows of Balotelli between 2010 and 2013. Liverpool unfortunately, only got the lows.

Balotelli has been offloaded to Nice now, ridding the club of his wages. The French have welcomed him warmly, but just like us, they shouldn’t have made the decision. When will clubs learn: there’s no changing Balotelli.
