George Gillett caught lying

Posted by

We received the following statement from Spirit of Shankly, check out the video below proving that Gillett keeps lying.

Spirit Of Shankly has a clear message for George Gillett and Tom Hicks – You’re not welcome here. The sooner they get that message, the better, for LFC, its fans, and for the wider community. On Saturday, that message was once again given to George Gillett. When he arrived at Melwood early Saturday morning to show around visitors from Saudi Arabia,  the last thing he would have expected was fans to be waiting for his arrival and to protest at his presence. That was exactly what he got, and he was left in no doubt as to the feelings of fans when he hastily departed from Melwood upon being confronted.

Whilst Gillett sought sanctuary at the club’s academy, he was once again confronted by fans, who made their feelings known. Gillett, in an attempt to quell any anger, offered to answer questions from one of the Union’s members present. As expected, and as is the custom for George Gillett and his partner Tom Hicks, the validity of what he had to say was questionable at the least. Whilst repeatedly making comparisons with Chelsea and Manchester United, Gillett made a number of claims, one of which is an easily proven lie. When asked about the stadium, and Gillett saying there would be a spade in the ground in 60 days, Gillett not only denied saying this, but accused co-owner Tom Hicks of saying it. The video here shows the press conference where that claim was made.

Make your own mind up about who said it, but if you are watching it George, you’re the short one, grey hair and wearing glasses. Tom is the other one, much bigger with his mouth closed for once.

At Anfield, much greater numbers gave a louder message. Outside the Directors’ Entrance, those gathered made their voices heard, so those in the Directors’ Box could hear it – Tom and George are not welcome. Inside the ground, whilst banners were displayed at the front of the Kop, “Yank Liar$ Out” and “Tom & George Tell Lie$”, an excessive number of stewards were on show in an attempt to quell any protest and display of banners. To stop them being displayed, Liverpool FC sent Merseyside Police to remove the banners. Fans holding the banners were threatened with ejection from the ground if they did not comply.

When asked why the banners had to be removed as they weren’t racist, political or offensive, fans were told that they were causing an obstruction. The case was argued that other banners create a much bigger obstruction, and that the banners had been displayed in previous matches, but it fell on deaf ears, and one of the banners was confiscated by Merseyside Police. LFC and the powers that be can continue to try and stifle the protests, with a heavy steward presence and an increased volume on the PA system, but maybe they should remember that without fans coming through the gates each week, they wouldn’t have a job.

Regardless of attempts to stop us, or attempts to deflect our issues, the message remains the same…..

  1. Congratulations to Empire of the Kop – official mouthpiece of Spirit of Shankly, who themselves are a bunch of self important wannabees who just don’t realise just how utterly ridiculous they look, swanning around thinking they have some kind of say in how Liverpool is run.

SOS is nothing more than a bunch of idiots with too much time on their hands and a misguided belief that people give a toss about their opinions. Sadly, having made their stance, their only raison d’etre is to moan about the clubs owners. They scream and protest about G&H selling the club to someone better, and then make a point of chasing away any prospective new owners with their petty little protests. Endless little ‘committee meetings’ to figure out how further to embarrass the club and more ‘press releases’ congratulating themselves on making Liverpool fans look stupid.

Give it a rest, the lot of you. You are bringing more shame to the club than G&H could ever do.

  2. I dont think Nic is a supporter, not an lfc one anyway.
The evidence speaks for itself ‘NIC’ and
you can dress it anyway you like the fact of the matter is the sos is acctually fighting for the club, which is more
than can be said for you.

  3. I feel certain LFC supporters take themselves too seriously. B/c of the way certain supporter groups act and the way the journos mop up every bad thing about LFC it makes the club and supporters look terrible. Keep in mind that clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal, Madrid, etc. are all in debt, but there fans aren’t having a go at them like LFC fans do. Maybe supporters should stop putting their anger into H&G and more into the manager and players who go out and play the game.
I understand supporters are mad about the stadium, but the clubs in debt, we’re having a global finacial crisis. Where is this money suppose to come from? If H&G would have known there was a finacial problem on the horizon they wouldn’t have bought the club anyway. If and when the new stadium is built, LFC will be in a situation like Arsenal. Paying back debt and unable to buy very many players. Yes, we haven’t bought a lot of players now, but I’m a believer in the manager needs to get the best out of what he has without spending a lot of money each year. David Moyes does it, why can’t Rafa overachieve? He did it when he won the CCL in his first year and he’s suppose to have better talent now.

  4. It’s a tough issue…
It is positive that SOS are working to try convince Hicks and Gillett to sell to more viable owners. They obviously are not capable of doing the club justice, and their ownership is restrictive to the progress of the club.
HOWEVER, people like Christian Purslow DO have a point when they ask the fans to stop showing hostility towards the owners of the club. If you were a wealthy businessman, would you want to buy a club where the fans are so hostile towards management? Especially for off-shore investors, the way in which SOS are going about their task can only be a red flag for someone who is looking to invest.

So, while the intentions are definitely well placed, the way in which they are being carried out could be done with a little more tact. I agree with the views of SOS. I don’t think that the US owners are good for the club. They do not have the finances to own the club without putting it under significant strain. Their constant failure to agree on anything is also detrimental to the club. However, I think that there a more intelligent ways of achieving the desired outcome – and I would say that an open dialogue between SOS and Christian Purslow would go a long way towards getting there. CP seems to have his head screwed on, and appears to have a good balance of business and financial acumen, and passion for the football club.

There is no doubt it is a tough situation though…to a certain degree all parties are damned if they do, and damned if they don’t.

  5. Thanks for all the ‘you’re not a true supporter’ messages. Very grown up.

I don’t agree with SOS and don’t believe they represent anyone but themselves – which is perfectly ok. My beef with them is that they have taken a standpoint from which they can not back down and don’t know when to stop. They want the owners out, full stop. That’s hardly a constructive way to behave.

The ownership issue is really nobody’s business but the owners. I am a fan of Liverpool, having followed them from just over the Mersey since my grandad started taking me to games as a kid. My opinion is not worth any more than any other fan. I do believe, however, that you cannot possibly have the best interests of the club at heart if you are constantly bringing the club image down.

I love to watch Liverpool play and am sick and tired of the constant protests, leaflets and banners that these muppets insist on producing in and around Anfield. Many fans who can’t think for themselves repeat the same nonsense out of some misguided idea that they are better fans and more loyal to the club. All they do is give ammunition to our opposition and the media.

Gillett and Hicks own the club, therefore they can do what they want with it. I may not agree with how they run it, but I come to watch football, not to get involved in board room wrangling. It would seem that SOS want to get involved in running the club rather than supporting the team. They can’t for one minute think that anything after their first protest would bring anything good to the club.

For all SOS’s whining, G&H have finally managed to rid us of Parry, they’ve appointed Purslow (who has already eclipsed all of Parry’s business dealings), they’ve brought Kenny back to the club and Rafa is slowly but surely building a team to challenge. Watching players like Torres take apart Hull is what I dreamed about.

My only thoughts should be tonights game, then Chelsea at the weekend.

SOS are not fighting for the club and blindly following them and their mantra is not a prerequisite to being a ‘real’ fan. They are entitled to their opinion – they just have to stop thinking they are ‘representatives’ of the fans and the club. They made their point months ago – now is time for them to remember there are football matches being played. If SOS continue, no prospective owner will want to buy because of the threat of protests if they are perceived to have gone against SOS’s ideas.

G&H may succeed or they may fail, who knows. In 10 years we may look back at a few league titles, a couple more European Cups, the downfall of the mancs and a new stadium that is the envy of the world. We may look back and rue the day G&H ever took over. Nothing I, SOS or anyone else says is going to alter the outcome, except for the worse. I can say for certain that the actions of SOS are not doing the team or the club any good whatsoever.

Time to move on – there’s a league title to be won.
