S.O.S. Goes Global

Posted by

Liverpool’s Supporters Union (S.O.S.) have announced that they are opening branches beyond Merseyside.
They are starting their global expansion by opening union branches in London, Sweden and a virtual branch online.

While we are currently all very excited about the signing of Joe Cole we must not lose our focus, Hicks and Gillett still own our beloved club. Just yesterday the club announced a hefty increase in ticket prices, of course the timing was chosen on the day of the Cole announcement so it “gets buried” in the news.

Here is their full statement from Spirit of Shankly.

The Spirit of Shankly are pleased to announce that the first three Union branches have been established.

The branches reflect the broad type of support the Union enjoys with branches established in London, Sweden and also a “virtual” branch based around the LFC supporters’ website Scouser Tommy.

When asked about the point of a branch, London Branch Acting Chair Chris O’Dea responded “Passion and Pride is what has brought us together. It is a shame that our club’s owners and their puppets have neither. It is our duty to introduce them to these concepts.” The London Branch inaugural meeting at the beginning of July saw over 100 people attend.

Joackim Lundberg, founder of the Sweden Branch said “I have together with some other supporters started a Sweden Branch, I hope that more countries and cities are following us. We have 69 members”

Scouser Tommy Branch Chair Kevin Reavey commented “As an online community the Scouser Tommy Branch brings together Reds fans from all over the world, which reflects not only the scale of our club’s support, but also how far the real concern over its current state and future direction has reached. The club is at a crossroads and, if we want to safeguard its future, we supporters must unite behind a common cause and speak with one voice.”

The Union has had enquiries from over 20 other areas of the country and world seeking information about opening Spirit of Shankly Branches – hopefully many of these will open soon encouraging greater democracy within the Union and a growth in membership as well.

If you wish to look at starting a branch please email secretary@spiritofshankly.com who can provide some background information and guidance.

  1. i am starting to strongly believe that for all the good you are trying to do you maybe be doing more harm than good to LFC. this constant bad press is really damaging our club while dooing very little to the owners.

  2. i bet all the suddern two bob bit fans wish they had joined the great group that is SOS. i have joined and untill we start buying players rather than fcuking free deals i for one will not be happy with the playing side, and on the business side untill they are gone, i will not buy anything form the club and will not go to the match

  3. There is money to be made in all this. People who in my opinion are not real fans, are making money out of LFC’s current plight. Why expand? What if Broughton is right and new owners are just around the corner? What if we get money for signings and a stadium? where does that leave the SOS? Surely, they should keep their money and not expand until the ownership is resolved. Then if new owners come in there is no need for the SOS. Will they then refund their members money or continue to go global???

  4. Peter, Nobody in SOS takes a wage, it is all done free, voluntarily, they have to charge ebcause you get a Pin Badge and Members card worth £5, the other £5 goes to campaigns run throught the year like the billboard campaigns and the banners they make to show messages inside the stadium.

  5. Liverpool fan sens the age of 5 from a Irish backround rased in London no living in Denmark where i have for 5 years now would love it if SOS had branche hear in Denmark always with all the marches and protest in Liverpool i would have loved to join in but was not able to with me living in Denmark and just had a Baby last month and the fact that getting flights to Liverpool from Denmark is hard,

any way if there was a chance to have a branche hear in Denmark would be fantastick there is lots of Liverpool fans in Deenmark most Danes but some like me from UK or Ireland and it would be grate to do marches and protest in as many countrys as possable
