Italian priest makes friends with Mario Balotelli

The chaplain of the Italy national team has commented on his relationship with Liverpool forward, Mario Balotelli, stating that the pair have become good friends over the last year.

Balotelli joined up with the Italian squad this week, having been omitted from all selections by new boss Antonio Conte since the 2014 FIFA World Cup, and Father Massimiliano hailed the character of the Reds striker.

“I spoke with everyone, even with Balotelli,” said Massimiliano to TuttoMercatoWeb, in quotes translated by SportWitness.

“With him I have created a good relationship. I’ve found him peaceful and quiet, I hope this will make for the good of the national team.

“If he is good there will be other opportunities for him. It’s all in his hands. I found him peaceful, tranquil and eager. In the last year a friendship was born, as with other players.

“He has suffered from the media. He’s still 24 years old and since he was 18 years old is the centre of attention. A little more serenity would do good for all, especially for a guy like him.”

Everyone can see the potential is there with Balotelli, but the application hasn’t always matched it.

Hopefully some divine intervention will result in plenty of goals for Liverpool.
