Sterling contract saga continues

Reports suggesting Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling is prepared to turn down one of the biggest deals in the club’s history will infuriate Kopites.

The Mail are claiming that even if the player was offered £180,000-a-week he would turn down the deal.

Sterling has just returned to Merseyside following a week on England duty and has stated recently that he wants to concentrate on his football – meaning he will wait until the summer before discussing a new deal, and leaving his future unresolved at least until May.

The 20-year-old has two years to run on his £35k-a-week deal but it appears he isn’t willing to commit his long-term future to Liverpool.

Reports also suggest that Sterling would prefer to play a striking role and is unhappy at being moved to wing-back to accommodate Daniel Sturridge.

Manchester City have signalled their interest in Sterling and now the Daily Mirror report that Arsenal are the latest club to mentioned expressing their interest.

You can’t believe every rumour circulating but they will continue as long as Sterling’s future remains unclear. Liverpool are obviously wanting Sterling to sign a new contract to safeguard against losing one of their top players but I think Sterling is waiting to see if Liverpool can qualify for next season’s Champions League before committing himself.

Sterling is obviously having his head filled with nonsense by his agent but he needs to realise that long-term the right decision is to stay at Anfield if he wants to improve as a player because he is far from the finished product despite having so much ability and potential. If he moves to Manchester City or Real Madrid, he might get more money but will he play regularly?
