The Liverpool Echo are claiming that the Reds have agreed a £12.5m fee with Southampton for full-back Nathaniel Clyne. The Saints full-back will become our sixth signing of the summer with an official announcement imminent.

The Echo’s James Pearce has also Tweeted this comfirmation:

Clyne will join James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez and Roberto Firmino at Anfield next season, as Brendan Rodgers and co continue to make incredible progress with our transfer business.

The 24-year-old England international defender has been a key member of Southampton’s squad since their promotion to the Premier League in 2012. However, he’s out of contract next summer, and the Saints were clearly determined not to lose him on a free.

Clyne made the step-up to the England team last year, following the World Cup, replacing former Liverpool star Glen Johnson, who it seems he’ll also succeed at Anfield.

He comes to us off the back of 104 games and five goals for Southampton in all competitions, with one of his strikes having come against us on the opening day of last season.
