The former Saints star sealed a move to Anfield last summer, shortly after England’s elimination from the World Cup. He’d go on to have a decent first year on Merseyside, which he’ll no doubt hope to improve on this year.
5) Markus Babbel (2000)
He was an important part of our treble winning side in 2001, helping us lift the UEFA Cup, the FA Cup and the League Cup in the same season. Illness got the better of him soon after and his career came to a premature end.
4) Steve Finnan (2003)
The successor to the German in our team was an equally valuable player. He was in the startling line-up for our Champions League success in 2005, only to be forced off at half-time after picking up an unfortunate injury.
