Fabio Borini and Mario Balotelli have both hinted at possible transfers with cryptic messages on their respective Twitter accounts, which have led fans to speculate over what might be next for the out of favour Italian duo.
Borini simply said that he was ‘on his way back’. Ordinarily, we would assume this to mean that he was talking about pre-season training, which begins next week. However, the vast majority of replies have been asking him whether he is in fact referring to Sunderland, where he spent the 2013-14 season on loan.
On my way back…

Balotelli meanwhile gave thanks to everyone for their support. Again, we have to speculate here, but it felt very much like a goodbye message – the kind footballers send on Twitter when they are thanking fans for their support.
Thanks everyone for the support.. I really wanna thanks everybody ❤️. My family thanks all of you too.

Both players struggled to make a significant impact on Merseyside last season, scoring just five goals between them in all competitions, while only two of those came in the Premier League.
With Danny Ings and Divock Origi both joining the club this summer – from Burnley and Lille respectively – the chances for Borini and Balotelli are going to be even more limited, so perhaps they’ve taken the hint and decided it’s the right time to move on.
We’ll have to wait and see if we’re right…
