As a result, the Italian has been allowed to travel back to his home country to be with his loved ones while his team-mates began preparations for the new season at Melwood yesterday, the Mirror reports.

Balotelli was born in Ghana in 1990, but after moving to Italy in 1992, authorities suggested the Barwuah family put him up for adoption – and he was taken in by the Balotellis. Francisco Balotelli brought Mario up ever since, and the pair had an extremely close relationship.

Our forward will be given the time off necessary, but will join up with the rest of the first-team squad on the tour of the Far East and Asia in the coming weeks.

It’s still not certain if Balotelli will be a Liverpool player next season. He failed miserably in 2014/15, and fell heavily out of favour with Brendan Rodgers – who clearly doesn’t rate the striker’s abilities. As of yet though there have been no official offers for his services.
