Late twist in Jose Enrique transfer exit – new club swoop for left-back

Posted by

It looked like Jose Enrique to West Brom was as good as done, with Liverpool Echo journalist James Pearce claiming that the two clubs had agreed a fee.

But it now appears that the deal is not as close to completion as was mooted this morning, and that Sunderland have come in with a late bid – the Mirror are confirming.

The Black Cats have already signed Fabio Borini and Sebastian Coates from us this summer, while they’ve been rebuffed in an approach for Tiago Ilori (via the Express) as well.

Now – they’re after our obsolete Spanish left-back, who we’re desperate to sell, it seems. A picture of Enrique signing for the Baggies had been circling Twitter, but it appears to have been a spoof – and the reports that the deal is over the line are currently false.

That’s not to say Enrique won’t end up at the Hawthorns, he’s just not there yet.

But we hope a deal, to whichever potential suitor, will be completed before 6pm, and the defender and his £65k-per-week wages (via Daily Mail) are as far away from the club as possible.

It’ll be interesting to see the reaction of Black Cats fans if Enrique did sign, considering he used to play for their bitter rivals Newcastle United.
