ESPN have today claimed a source has informed them that Liverpool are monitoring Arsenal’s 22-year-old Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The report says Jurgen Klopp is interested in buying a right winger in the summer, and the Gunners attacker is one of the players on his radar.

The former Southampton starlet will have two years left on his deal come the end of this season, but Arsenal want him to renew – so a potential transfer would not come easily.

While Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is talented, it’s important to remember that he hasn’t got close to fulfilling the promise he showed as a teenager. Remember, he started for England at Euro 2012 – but four years later he’s nowhere near Roy Hodgson’s starting XI ahead of the Euros and is not a guarantee to even make England’s squad.

Part of the issue with The Ox has been his inability to nail down a proper position – with his versatility actually working against him. He’s played on both flanks and in centre-midfield, but is still not a part of Arsene Wenger’s first-choice starting XI.

This term injuries have limited him to nine Premier League starts, and it’d be a worry for fans that if we signed Oxlade-Chamberlain we’d be adding another injury prone player to our ranks.

In terms of right wingers, Oxlade-Chamberlain isn’t an enormous improvement on Jordon Ibe or Lazar Markovic, so if we were to sign a new one – perhaps we should go for a more proven, healthier one.
