Jose Enrique ‘angry’ he’s not playing for Liverpool v Villarreal, says he ‘has high morals’

We don’t like criticising current Liverpool players, but Jose Enrique seriously tests our patience.

The only reason he’s still at the football club is because he couldn’t get his current wages elsewhere, which means he’s essentially sacrificed an entire season of his career by not moving, having only made 12 Premier League appearances in the past three seasons.

Enrique’s been told he can leave, but he won’t, which makes these following quotes all the more ridiculous.

“It gives me a little anger not to be in this match. Right now I’m not counted on by the coach, but I feel fine physically. I am in perfect condition and I know I can get my chance,” the 30-year-old told MARCA.

“If I can’t play here, I’ll do it somewhere else.

“I do not know if they have submitted an offer, but I think that several clubs have contacted my agent next season. I focus on playing. I have high morals, I feel very good physically, and continue training as usual and eager to play. I know that in football you find these situations.”

Thankfully, Enrique is out of contract at the end of this season and the club will finally be rid of his extravagant wages and irritating presence seemingly everywhere but the football field.

The Spaniard played for Villarreal back in 2006/07, and despite some decent seasons following his move from Newcastle, the left-back has not shone himself in glory over the past three years – although injuries have played their part.

So much so, his legacy will be that of a footballer chasing money rather than glory. A shame, as there was a time he really offered something.
