Mario Balotelli’s wage at his new club Nice has been revealed.
According to L’Equipe (English translation cited in Metro), he has been given a bumper £3.7 million per year income – giving him about £72,000 per week.
It’s a remarkable figure for a player who has scored just two league goals in the last 24 months of football. Indeed, he only managed seven goals in all competitions over that time.
It perhaps explains why we were willing to let him go on a free – Nice probably wouldn’t have splashed that much cash on his salary if they had also needed to find a sizeable transfer fee.
The wage is still a risk though; the French league is notoriously short on quality outside of the top couple of sides, and if Balotelli can’t find the net regularly on that side of the Channel it really would mark the end of any semblance of hope he has of claiming that Ballon d’Or award!
