Liverpool could have found themselves a gem in youngster Yan Dhanda.

The 18-year-old stole the spotlight on Sunday as he curled in a stunning last-minute winner to secure a 1-0 win for the Reds U23s against Manchester City.

Dhanda proved to be an inspired first half substitute for the injured Danny Ings, with his superb curling effort ensuring Neil Critchley’s side maintained its 100 percent record early on in the season.

It topped off what was a bright display from the teenager, who had turned heads earlier in the game with a sublime free kick that forced City goalkeeper Daniel Grimshaw in an impressive save.

A posture and technique similar to that of Philippe Coutinho has already seen Dhanda loosely compared to the Brazilian, with all affiliated with the club notably excited about the Indian’s potential.

His display saw him showcase an ability to drift wide and cut in on his right foot, as well as his tendency to occupy more central areas, both deep and on the edge of the box, in aid of turning provider for his teammates.

For him to be catching the eye so often in a team including the likes of Harry Wilson, Marko Grujic and Rhian Brewster says a lot about his progress.
