Chelsea may have new edge over Liverpool in race for 19-year-old

Chelsea may have uncovered an advantage in the battle to sign teenage sensation Christian Pulisic.

The in-demand Borussia Dortmund star has previously been dubbed a priority target for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool and has also expressed an interest in playing in England.

American owners Fenway Sports Group are also known to be avid admirers in bringing the their fellow countryman to Merseyside.

In an attempt to sign Pulisic, Chelsea could offer Michy Batshuayi as part of a deal for the 19-year-old, according to the Daily Mail.

The striker is currently on loan with the Bundesliga club and already boasts a record of five goals in three games for his temporary employers.

It remains to be seen whether a strong second half of the season in Germany will earn the Belgian a return to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Pulisic himself has long held a place on Klopp’s wishlist thanks to his sparkling form since arriving on the scene with Dortmund.

Though the USA international had featured predominantly on the wing in recent seasons, he isn’t deemed a natural wide-man.

A central attacking-midfield role has also been touted as a potential long-term position, which he may begin to transition into as he furthers his development.

With that in mind, Pulisic has been identified as a possible, but albeit unconventional, replacement for Philippe Coutinho.

He flaunts the invention and technical ability to be a key creative contributor in Klopp’s interchanging system, with the slight frame and jinking movement capable of thriving in compact areas.

Of all the names to be linked with an Anfield switch, Pulisic is arguably one of the leading candidates to become subject to firm interest when the window re-opens.
