According to Andy Hunter in the Guardian, Liverpool’s flurry of new contract will extend past Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane to Ragnar Klavan and Alberto Moreno.
On Sunday, Firmino officially extended his deal until 2023, while we’re planning on rewarding his two strike-partners accordingly.

But few were expecting Moreno and Klavan, two players regarded largely as not being good enough, as well…
The journalist writes:
“Firmino signed a five-year deal worth £180,000-a-week plus incentivised bonuses on Sunday having developed into a crucial member of Klopp’s team. Liverpool have also opened negotiations with representatives of Salah and Mané as they bid to secure their formidable attack for the long term, while Ragnar Klavan and Alberto Moreno are expected to be offered extended terms.”
Moreno has been at the club since 2014, but the only time he managed to impress for a period of time was at the beginning of this season, when he picked up an unfortunate injury and was replaced by the excellent Andy Robertson, who’s very much made the left-back spot his own.
As a result, the best the Spaniard could hope for is a place as Robbo’s backup.
Similarly for Ragnar Klavan, he’ll only ever be a rotation option in Jurgen Klopp’s current set-up.
The central defensive pecking order goes: Virgil van Dijk, Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip, Ragnar Klavan, with the possibility of a new player signed in the summer to boot.
As squad players, we can understand the choice to keep them, although many online cannot:
No way, Klavan not good enough, Moreno bang average. We need to aim for a higher standard to improve the squad

Good backup options. Hopefully Moreno can return to his pre-injury form, and then he’ll be a powerful squad player. Ragnar the Red has been good and useful when called upon. Unpopular opinion, but good business imo 👍

Don’t get why Moreno would get offered a contract.

Has Moreno got some nudes of klopp or something? A liability of a a defender who quite simply will never make it at the club….

How is Moreno getting offered a new long-term Contract or more to the point why? surely it cant be based on performances!!! Also cant see logic in keeping Klavan if we sign another top CB in summer to partner VVD Lovren/Matip/Gomez could be back up or maybe we dont intend to!!

before he got injured and Big Mad Andy got his run, Moreno was arguably our best defender, him or Klavan. he may be a bit donkey brained but he’s decent cover for wide left. I’d sell for a good offer obviously but not that angry about him staying

Moreno and klavan must be replaced.
It’s not wise to extend their contract.— sean egyir (@seanlelahel) May 2, 2018
