The Swiss looks set to become our third major signing of the summer after deals for Fabinho and Naby Keita were confirmed.

Shaqiri is 26-years-old and has enormous experience in Europe’s biggest leagues, as well as competing at international level and in Europe for Bayern Munich.

He didn’t enjoy an especially impressive 2017/18 campaign, which saw Stoke relegated, but he’s undeniably talented and if Jurgen Klopp thinks he can benefit the squad, then who are we to argue?

We bought Gini Wijnaldum from relegated Newcastle and Andy Robertson from relegated Hull – and they both turned out pretty good.

We think Shaqiri will offer solid backup in a multitude of positions across the frontline, which when you remember what Klopp had to bring off the bench last season, is very handy.

Shaqiri should be wrapped up by the weekend so he can join his new team-mates on the tour of America.
