Liverpool are being strongly linked with Real Betis left-back Junior Firpo.
Spanish outlet SPORT are the latest to claim we’re keen on the 22-year-old, who was exceptional in La Liga last season.
Betis are unlikely to accept anything less than €50m, which is Firpo’s release-clause, for the young defender – which is a lot of money for someone coming in to warm Liverpool’s bench…
Alberto Moreno barely got a sniff in the past 18 months since Andy Robertson won a spot in the side, and is leaving on a Bosman as a result, so it’s not going to be easy to sign a suitable replacement.
The new left-back needs to be a better defender than Moreno, but content to wait for his opportunities, while also pushing Robertson in training.
It’s an important role, but not one we can see Liverpool spending €50m on – so unless Firpo’s price-tag is lowered – we can’t see him being the player we’ll target.
Instead, we imagine Liverpool are currently scouring the market for a bargain – and will surprise us all when the left-back is announced.
We’ve known Moreno would leave for some time, so there’ll undoubtedly be a few in the pipeline already.
