Jurgen Klopp instructed to sign Brazilian who was Copa America MVP

Liverpool should sign Dani Alves this summer, according to former Brazil star Kleberson.

The 36-year-old won the Copa America with his country – the 40th trophy of his glittering career so far – and was named the Player of the Tournament, but left PSG this summer as a free agent.

Kleberson, via Sport Review, said: “He’s a phenomenal player. I feel maybe he could fit in well at Liverpool and Klopp would like him as a style of player. He’s very technical, fast and has an incredible temperament in the big games. He’s a winner.”

In terms of a transfer fee – or the lack of one – and the experience that he would bring to the side, it makes a lot of sense, while he already knows Alisson, Roberto Firmino and Fabinho.

Alves’ wages are probably where any potential deal would come unstuck – he was earning around £157,000 per week at PSG, according to Sport, which might be too much for FSG for someone of his age.

The right-back wants to stay in Europe, having played for Sevilla, Barcelona, Juventus and PSG, and you would think he will have a number of offers on the table.

We wouldn’t be against signing him on a short-term, one-year deal: he could be a great role model for Trent Alexander-Arnold to work with and would add huge experience and winning mentality to the squad.

The only issue will be whether his wages fit into the rigid structure that the club has in place.
