This is a crazy little story from the Super Cup!
Following our penalty victory in the Istanbul clash v Chelsea, a fan ran onto the pitch and was tackled just before he got to Adrian, but that made him slip and accidentally slide-tackle the victorious keeper…
The Spaniard hurt his ankle and was actually a doubt for the Southampton victory at the weekend.
And according to The Athletic’s James Pearce, this made the stewards very skeptical of anyone trying to enter the pitch.
Our physio Jose Luis Rodriguez Robledo went to the crowd to get a Spanish fag to celebrate with Adrian, but wasn’t allowed to return!

“Among their five-strong team was physio Jose Luis Rodriguez Robledo,” Pearce writes. “The Spaniard had enjoyed an eventful evening in Istanbul. Having gone into the stands to get his national flag for goalkeeper Adrian during the post-match celebrations, stewards mistook him for a pitch invader when he returned to the field. Twice, they tried to drag him away – much to the amusement of his fellow staff members.”
It would have been nice if the stewards stopped the actual pitch invader instead, but there we go!
Despite Adrian’s mistake against Southampton, we still picked up the three points so his error cost us nothing.
Alisson made one against Leicester early on last season and got away with it – so let’s hope this is a good sign of things to come.
It’s Arsenal next weekend and a top of table clash between the only two sides with perfect records so far!
